At the second robotics qualifier event in Albany Georgia, MHS RoboMustangs did phenomenally well finishing the early qualifying matches ranked 6 out of 37. This ranking allowed the team, for the first time, the opportunity to participate in the playoff as an alliance captain. Each alliance captain selects two teams that will make up their alliance for the playoff rounds. Last year in Columbus, the RoboMustangs and Columbus Space Program teams were selected by (team captain) Fernbank LINKS team which eventually won that event.

Although, the RoboMustangs and its alliance did not win the event in Albany, the team did well enough to qualify for the State Championship in Athens, Ga. In the Albany event, the RoboMustangs was also awarded the 2017 Industrial Design Award for its robot design.

At the state championship in Athen, Georgia, the RoboMustangs continued to perform well and ended the early rounds rank 16th out of 45. The RoboBibb, (the number one ranked team & alliance captain) selected Team Otto, and the RoboMustangs as alliance partners. The three teams worked together advancing through the playoff brackets without dropping a single match. By the end of the afternoon, the three team alliance was crowned 2017 Peachtree District State Champions.
